Born and raised in Colorado, I began painting landscapes on location as a teenager with my mother, a watercolor painter. After high school, I studied and graduated from Kansas City Art Institute with a BFA. I worked for 18 years in graphic design. Eight of those years, I ran my own free-lance graphic design business. I made a career change and taught art in the public schools (K-5) for 16 years after that. Since retiring, I've spent time painting and studying with Richard Dahlquist, Chris Alvarez, and Thomas Blackshear. I organize the painting schedule for the local chapter of Plein Air Artists of Colorado in Colorado Springs.
Historically, I'm inspired by the impressionists. I love to paint the light effect on subjects. I strive to capture the mood and lighting of the my subject while interpreting what I am painting. I'm not looking for photographic reproduction.
